Our approach to digital consumer guidance
Helnivor Digital Guide came about because we felt there was a shortage of neutral, easy-to-read resources about digital privacy tools. There is plenty of information out there — but much of it is either technical and hard to follow, or clearly influenced by commercial interests.
We want to fill that gap with educational content that helps ordinary web users make informed choices — without scaring, pressuring or promising more than reality warrants.
What we do
We compare digital tools based on publicly available information. We review features, pricing models, availability and ease of use, and present the findings in a clear way. We are not a technical test lab, but a consumer guide that helps you navigate a broad market.
We primarily cover tools for:
- Ad blocking in browsers (particularly Chrome)
- Tracking protection and privacy settings
- Basic digital security for individuals
What we are not
We are not a provider of any of the tools we discuss. We sell no software and offer no technical support. Nor are we a news outlet — we publish guidance content, not news.
We are open about the fact that some links on the site are affiliate links. This means we may receive a commission if you purchase a product through such a link. We are clear about this next to the relevant links, and it does not affect which tools we cover or how we assess them.
The values we work by
-
Neutrality
We don't portray products more positively than the evidence warrants. We highlight both advantages and limitations.
-
Transparency
We disclose affiliate relationships, our funding model and any limitations in the basis for our assessments.
-
Simplicity
We write for ordinary users, not IT experts. Technical terminology is always explained in context.
-
Realism
We don't exaggerate the effect of tools and clearly point out that results vary from user to user.
Assessment method
All the tools we cover are assessed along four dimensions based on publicly available information:
Performance and effect
Documented effects on ad reduction and page load time, drawn from publicly available tests and user reports.
Ease of use
How simple installation is, and whether the interface is understandable without a technical background.
Price and pricing model
A clear comparison of free versions, subscriptions and any limitations.
Transparency and documentation
The availability of privacy policies, data processing agreements and public information about the provider.
